That night was the beginning of my journey being in pain up until this very moment. I did an x-ray and discovered that was when I was told by the doctor that I have avascular necrosis of the hip. – Paul Pogba has what it takes to captain Manchester United says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

– The Norwegian faulted Jose Mourinho’s claims about the Frenchman saying he does not fit to lead the team

– Solskjaer claims Pogba showed some part of the qualities during their World Cup triumph in Russia last year

Manchester United interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has countered Jose Mourinho’s claims that Paul Pogba is not fit to captain the club.

The Frenchman was stripped off the vice captaincy role earlier this season by the Portuguese tactician after their relationship further deteriorated.

Video of Pogba filtered the social media before their meeting against Croatia in the final of the 2018 which led to their triumph at the tourney.

And the former striker made reference to the short clip which went viral to speak about the leadership qualities of the star according to Daily Mail.

The former Juventus star was seen charging his countrymen to go all out and achieve greatness for their country, and they ended up winning their second World Cup last summer.

Solskjaer said about Pogba that: “He’s a character, he influences people and you’ve seen the videos from France, and he cares and he really wants to be successful.

He knows he can’t do it by himself. It’s a team game and he’s a character that brings so many good things with him when he’s enjoying himself, I have to say.

You see the personality. He’d love playing football, he’s a larger-than-life character, that’s just the way he is.

When the performances come as well, that marries together as a good leader and you see what it meant to him winning the World Cup in what France broadcast. So, for me, yes, he’s captain material.

Solskjaer named some past captains during his playing days, varying from Eric Cantona leading by example to the intensity of Roy Keane, and vocal nature of Gary Neville to the respect shown towards Ryan Giggs.

We’ve had some iconic captains here with Steve Bruce and Bryan Robson, so personalities… big personalities,’ the United boss said.

I think that’s important, that you’re not afraid of standing in front of your team-mates and putting them in their place if you have to.

And I have to be fair to Ash [Ashley Young], who’s now our skipper, he’s maybe one of the last old-school ones, he sounds like Rio (Ferdinand) and Gary and all them.”

Solskjaer added that: “Ashley’s wearing the armband, yes, because Antonio’s struggled with fitness as well, in and out,’ Solskjaer explained.

But Antonio’s still the club captain, but Ash is wearing the armband when he’s playing.

I’ve never been a fan of ‘you’re this and you’re that’. Once in a while it’s to give, say David (De Gea) was captain one of these games when Ash didn’t play. So, there’s 11 captains out there really, it doesn’t really bother me.

I was captain for Norway, and quite a few times for United but I still don’t tell my kids I was captain of Man United or Norway, but once in a while you are.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Paul Scholes has showered encomiums on Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after leading the club to seven straight win in all competitions.

The tactician took over from Jose Mourinho late last year after the Red Devils struggled in all competitions.

Mourinho spent two and a half seasons at Old Trafford winning one Europa League and EFL Cup each in the process.

– Arsenal set to make surprise move for Atletico Madrid star Filipe Luis

– The 33-year-old is in his final year with the Europa League champions

– The Gunners have been struggling at left-back since the season started

Premier League side Arsenal have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian left-back’s current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano will run out this summer and it is uncertain whether he will sign a new contract.

And according to the Mirror, Arsenal manager Unai Emery could make a move for the 33-year-old when the transfer window opens in January.

The former Chelsea star was a target by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer but the deal collapsed when Atletic demanded a fee in the region of £27million.

The Ligue 1 champions were only willing to offer £4.5m to get a deal done, believing it was a fair price for a defender of his age and approaching the final year of his contract.

Luis spoke to Europa League champions about the situation, but Atleti made it clear they did not want him to leave in the summer and he obliged.

But by the time the window opens in January he will be entering the last six months of his stay in the Spanish capital as yet there is nothing in place to extend his career.

Emery has reportedly been a long-term admirer of the hard-tackling defender, who struggled to make an impression in the Premier League when he spent a year at Stamford Bridge in 2014-15.

Luis was second choice to Spanish star Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back and was sold back to Atletico a year later.

But Emery knows his game well and the suggestion is he believes the Brazilian is the best option for the crisis in the Gunner’s left-back position.

First choice Nancho Monreal’s contract with the club runs out at the end of the season with no offer made to the Spaniard yet.

Sead Kolasinac who plays second fiddle to Monreal has still not convinced he has what it takes to become a success in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Brazil left back Felipe Luis is reportedly planning to dump his Spanish League side Atletico Madrid before the close of the summer transfer window.

The former Chelsea star has just one more year on his current deal with the Europa League champions and does not have an intention of signing a new contract extension.

– Coach Emil Sandoi trips an opposing player during a league match

– The referee’s assistant spotted the incident and he was sent off

– His team, who are second on the table, were playing a 1-1 draw

Romanian second division coach Emil Sandoi took a novel approach to coaching as he tripped a rival player in an unbelievable clip.

League leaders Chindia Targoviste were taking on FC Arges and broke down the touchline with nine minutes left in the match.

But Arges manager Sandoi had other ideas as he cheekily stretched out a leg and sent the player tumbling into the sidelines.

The referee’s assistant quickly alerted the ref who wasted no time in sending the pitch invader to the stands.

However Sandoi stuck around for a while trying to prove he was innocent.

He is likely to be disciplined by the league’s FA, meaning his players will have to do their own defending next time.

His team Arges are just two points behind Targoviste in the Liga 2 table.

The margin could have been wider after going behind to Christian Cherchez’s strike but Vasile Buhaescu levelled 10 minutes before his coach was sent into an early shower.
